when guests become ghosts dinner
curated by rachel clara reed and éléonore d'hauterives
31 october 2024
On the 31st night of October, Maison Saint Joseph breathed with new stories. As candlelight danced across centuries-old stones, we became part of this house’s memory…
Guests became storytellers around our feast table, sharing fragments of lives lived elsewhere: a grandmother’s kitchen in Provence imagined from the end of an afternoon perfume, a childhood room as a treehouse, ghost encounters in a lover’s apartment in Paris, a woman making her own home in the made-house of her architect ex-husband. The strange was welcomed and each tale was woven into our collective ghostly presence. The evening unfolded like a dream: spirits gathered over vintage wines and whispered secrets. Hands passed dishes filled with memories of snippets of daily life. Around the fireplace, we watched shadows play on walls, and we witnessed a thousand such nights. Even if some of us have left, like all who came before, pieces of our stories will forever echo in these living places. And yes, perhaps now, we too are among the ghosts of Maison Saint Joseph…
