A HOUSE TO CREATE
what do we think an art residence is?
msj is an art residency that invites artists, performers, researchers, and authors to explore the many dimensions of our History. We welcome artists from diverse backgrounds, carrying multiple identities, who push the boundaries of aesthetics, politics, society, and psychology. By blending modern technologies with artisanal know-how, msj fosters exploration across all disciplines. With its workshops, library, spaces, and the history that inspires it, msj offers a unique environment to question, exchange, and to try out new forms in one’s practice.

our vision

msj is an artistic residency rooted in the values of friendship, creation, and transcultural exchange. Located 30 minutes north of Paris in the historic town of Crépy-en-Valois, we offer a space where ideas thrive through dialogue and cultural sharing.
A Collective Approach to Creation: At the heart of our project lies the belief that art is nourished by encounters and exchange. We particularly encourage hosting artist collectives that enrich the creative dynamic of the residency. These collaborations allow for:
- Cross-pollination of artistic practices
- The emergence of innovative transdisciplinary projects
- The development of a vibrant artistic community
- The sharing of resources and expertise
- The creation of collaborative works
The configuration of our spaces is specifically designed to accommodate groups, with shared work areas and private spaces allowing for a balance between collaboration and individual focus. Our experience shows that the presence of collectives energizes the entire residency, creating a creative ecosystem beneficial for all residents.
