BEYOND ALIVE
(+ artist guests : Felix Heger et Gauthier Demumieux, Anastasia Tikhomirova, Drhuv Kumar)
This immersive work was born from a process of collective creation, exploration, and transformation, deeply rooted in the history and memories of the Maison Saint Joseph itself.
Beyond Alive is an artwork that transcends the visitor’s experience, inviting them to engage with a process that dissolves the boundaries of temporality and space. At its core, Beyond Alive is a story of friendship, love, and shared aspiration—a collective effort to breathe life into forgotten dreams and realize them through collaboration. It is a living, evolving work, shaped by the collective’s desire to create art together, fusing their individual visions into one unified expression.
The project unfolds through the memories of the Maison Saint Joseph, where four years of research, spontaneous writing, and immersive exploration have led to the creation of Shadows Book. This work acts as a key to the house’s transformation into a residence for artists, blending reality and fiction. Through the shadows and phrases painted on the pages, the house itself becomes a canvas, with each member of the collective appropriating and reinterpreting its narrative. As the house is gradually reimagined, the project invites visitors to become part of the process, engaging with the work and the space in ways that allow them to experience the transformation first-hand.
Beyond Alive explores themes of identity, culture, and memory, merging different artistic techniques such as sound, digital media, and traditional art forms. The project encourages a collective language, one that is not fixed but constantly evolving, shaped by the diverse voices and experiences of the artists involved. Through this dynamic process, the artwork becomes an open dialogue between the house, the collective, and the visitors.
Maison Saint Joseph, in its role as both host and collaborator, becomes an integral part of the work. The house’s spaces—each room a reflection of different memories, emotions, and cultural histories—are transformed into immersive environments that guide visitors through a journey of discovery. From the cellar to the attic, Beyond Alive invites exploration into the past, present, and future, questioning the boundaries of time and space.
The residency of collective unnamed at msj represents a unique opportunity for artists to come together, experiment, and push the limits of creative expression. Through Beyond Alive, they offer a vision of a world where art and memory intertwine, where the past informs the future, and where the boundaries between individual and collective are blurred.

collectif unnamed connects a multicultural team from beyond India, China, United States, England, Morocco, France, Russia and Germany. We fuse our aspirations and expertise, experimenting together. Un-naming is the way to free ourselves from the rules that come before and gives opportunities for interdisciplinary futures. Un-naming is an act of activism, not putting things into boxes. collective unnamed seeks to formulate the questions and not to answer them.
