open day: meet our residents

With:
Thomas James and Pascal Proust

Date:
18th october 2025

Maison Saint Joseph is pleased to invite you to meet our autumn 2025 residents, Thomas James and Pascal Proust. This is a unique opportunity to discover their approach, discuss their current research with them, and meet other creative people from the region.

The evening will begin at 6:00 pm with a warm welcome at Maison Saint Joseph. Thomas and Pascal will briefly present their artistic approach and their residency project, followed by informal discussions over drinks. This will be an opportunity to discover their respective creative worlds — from Thomas’s transcultural curatorial practice to Pascal’s archi-utopian universes — and to engage in free dialogue with them about their ongoing research. The evening will continue in a relaxed atmosphere, conducive to encounters and discussions between creatives, artists, and curious minds from the region.

Thomas James (United States), a curator who defines himself as a cultural worker, lives and works in Baltimore. He explores the narrative power of collage and the assembly of found objects. His residency at msj is devoted to developing a critical essay on these accessible mediums that open up avenues for community-based storytelling.

Pascal Proust (France), a visual artist from Saint-Florent-Le-Vieil, creates utopian worlds that challenge the codes of representation between dream and reality. At msj, he is producing a series of models of monumental sculptures, continuing his recent work that combines sculpture and literature: a catalogue of 21st-century architectural follies.
